Rediscover your Career in 2008

In 2007, various studies were undertaken by organisations in the UK to measure employee satisfaction.

In a recent "Happiness at work" survey undertaken by Badenoch and Clark, it revealed that one in four office workers were unhappy with their job. It cited that the most disenchanted workers are men working in IT and telecoms, and more men said they were unhappy at work than women.

As stated by Buckminster Fuller, "the moment you know what you really want to do, it's really a different kind of life".

"No one is in control of your happiness but you; therefore you have the power to change anything about yourself or your life that you want to change" - Barbara De Angelis

Think about this, what is important about your job?

Does it give you a feeling of happiness or satisfaction?

Does it give meaning to your life?

Or is it just something you do to pay the bills?

The concept of a job used to focus on the importance of a good salary, security, pension and benefits. But for many people, a greater importance is placed on feeling satisfied. This includes job satisfaction, career enhancement and being fulfilled at work.

There is no longer the concept of a job or career for life. More people want freedom and work life balance and there has been a greater shift in expectations and desire.

It is not always easy to plan your career, but your future success depends on how well you plan and the decisions you take.

I am planning to pursue MS in telecom in US. I have got 2 admits, one from San Jose univ near Sillicon Valley?

I am planning to pursue MS in telecom in US. I have got 2 admits, one from San Jose univ near Sillicon Valley and other from Polytechnic University of New York
I am very much confused as what to do.
Request to help me out with the below queries
Which college is better in terms of career prospects, education, living expenses, etc

being in the heart of silicon valley - not "near" it, but right in it - is huge if you want to pursue internships. and if you are any kind of networker, you can also meet the best VCs, get passes to conferences, take part in entrepreneur meetings, etc. voip, telecom, hardware, software, all those companies have a presence w/n 20 mi radio of SJSU.

living is costly in silicon valley - and you do need a car to get around. then again, climate is nice and you don't struggle with snow and ice all winter.

i'd suggest you create a 'hit list' of companies you'd like to work for one day and go to their web sites and see what presence they have near both schools and if they have an internship program.

T1 Lines Defined and DS1 Technology Solutions

T1 Lines are very valuable when it comes to business. A T1 Line is much more reliable than DSL because of the SLA guaranteed by the ISP and it is dedicated so there isn't anyone who shares the connection with the subscriber. When a T1 Line of High-Speed Internet is connected to the World Wide Web/Internet over fiber, dedicated copper or Ethernet using a telecommunications standard that was developed by AT&T/Bell Labs for North America/United States/Canada and Japan it transmits data packets at a collective speed of 1.544 megabits per second (Mbps) and usually connects from the customer premise (CP) directly to an extensive fiber optic Internet Service Provider (ISP) backbone.

For those of you who are new to the T1 world, here is some information that may help bring some clarity to the issue. The terminology that is known as a "T-1" or "T1" is abbreviated for Trunk Level 1, which is a telecommunications standard for digital transmission under the Digital Signal Level hierarchy. A T1 over copper is delivered by connecting two pairs of twisted copper wires between the subscriber location and the telco providers central office also known as the (CO). One of the 2 twisted copper pairs is for transmitting data and the other pair is for receiving data. In conjunction, the 4-copper-wire transmission media carrying the digital signaling standard produces a full duplex symmetrical or bi-directional circuit. When a T1 delivered over fiber, a fiber pair is used as opposed to the 4-wire copper configuration as stated above. The copper solution is more common than the fiber, especially in rural area's.

The effectiveness of an Internet T1 over cable or DSL Internet service is that the total amount of 1.544 Mbps minus the .008 Mega bits per second for framing of available bandwidth is delivered by a T-1 connection that is guaranteed 24 x 7 x 365 by the Internet Service Provider under a Service Level Agreement (SLA) that dictates service reliability in precise terms. Also, when a T1 is not sufficient enough you are able to bond the T1's up to as many as 8 T1's commonly phrased as NxT1, the N standing for the number of T1 Lines to be bonded.

The end result is that a T1 is used to provide last mile Internet Access to an ISP's (Internet Service Provider's) Point of Presence also known as their PoP, a local loop is then delivered and T1 access is provisioned as 1.536 Mbps of bandwidth and a full 1.536 Mbps bi-directional plus the .008 Mbps of framing bits which equals the 1.544 Mbps. So before you go shopping for T1 Lines make sure that it is a true T1 and not one of those oversubscribed wireless circuits where the whole neighborhood is sharing the connection and is promoted in local markets for a ridiculously lower price that is traditionally sold on the T1 market.

Network Marketing Scams

The History of Network Marketing – Are There Really Network Marketing Scams?

Are there really network marketing scams, well there is one for sure and it has been around for the whole history of network marketing.  It’s a big one too.  It has been the major point as to shy there are so many people that fail in the network marketing industry.

And it is the training system that has been put in place for the industry at large.  See, the standard training that basically everyone gets is they are told when they start their business to write a list of all of their family and friends, go through the list and call them all to see who wants to buy their product or join them in business.  This is good and it works great but the scam part is what happens next.

What happens when the new person runs out of prospects or leads?  Usually, this is where a big percentage of people quit or just stop showing up.  The people that introduced them and are teaching them missed the part in setting up their business where they create systems or methods to generate new leads.  This is a very crucial part of any business including a multi level marketing business.

Why has this network marketing scam been going on and still goes on?  It’s because the majority of the business have been run on a personality basis.  Most people that have become successful with network marketing, started with a massive amount of contacts, or been in sales for years and have mastered lead generation, or people that have bought their way to the top.  These are all things that people have done to build the business but, they don’t do well at teaching the part about getting new leads.  They just tell you to go out and get more and tell you the methods.

So learn about how you can generate an endless supply of lead and how you can train your downline to do the same.  When you do this you will have broken this network marketing scam and you will be creating a new history of network marketing that people will respect.

Get all the facts of this Multi Level Marketing Scam and learn how to profit from this loop hole.

how dangerous is network marketing? can i even trust it?

while i was looking for a job last week i meet somebody and invited me to join in their company (UNO) i believe they are into network marketing but they offer or show evidence that is way too good to be true, so doubt it, but when i start to search the internet about network marketing it seems that alot of people are really into it.
Now i am confuse, so i need answer or opinions from people who had join or got knowledge about this network marketing.
I also wanna ask what the difference of network marketing and pyramid scam cause i've notice that they actually just look the same. I mean a person will invite somebody and then if he/she join he will also invite somebody and so on...
so please help me cause i am interested to join but doubtful if its worth investing.

Do lots of research on this person and the business they are promoting and if it sounds too good to be true, it normally is. I am looking at many ways to earn online and currently reading and looking at everything I can.

Rather than going with someone that came to you look around sites like warriorforum.com that have numerous experts ready to help with advice showing how they do it. Look all over the web at social networking sites, youtube, twitter, facebook. There are plenty of groups to help. Search for the company in your search engine and look at what others say about them. They may offer good evidence of previous sales and income but they have been doing it a while, doesn't mean you will earn just as much

I have a small blog at http://www.siturnock.com where I have articles to help in some ways. You can check out many other blogs of internet marketers.

Pyramid scams normally mean you pass on some of your earnings to people who recruited you. The more you have in your downline, the more you earn. Internet marketing is where you buy a product, normally pay a one off fee and sell to others to make money for yourself. The way they make money is to offer other products to you in the future as you will know if they offer good items from past experience.

Good luck and have a look at my site http://www.siturnock.com

Network Marketing Upline

A List Of Effective Network Marketing Strategies

Network marketing strategies are going to serve as the core of your home-based business. The best and most effective one is prospecting. You never know where your next sale is going to come from, so prospecting becomes the most vital aspect of your business. Of all the network marketing strategies available to you, prospecting is the one you will use every single day no matter what. It always works. You'll always get results when you enjoy prospecting every day for new customers and those interested in a home-based business opportunity.

There's a right way and a wrong way to prospect. In order to learn how to prospect the right way, you have to be a lifelong learner because good prospectors always continue training this skill. You really can't learn enough when it comes to prospecting. Of all the network marketing strategies available to you, this is one that will evolve over time for you because it's one you need to practice in order to make perfect. Keep training your prospecting skills as time goes on no matter how good you think you are at it. There's always room for improvement and more practice as you gain new skills and insight in prospecting.

You have much to learn about network marketing strategies, so it's very important that you look up to those in your upline so you can learn their tricks. Think of your upline as your mentors who can teach you what has worked for them. You're learning from the masters when you pay attention to what has worked for these high earners.

One thing that always works is staying organized. It may not sound like the most profound of network marketing strategies at first, but organizing information about your phone calls and conversations with prospects can be enormously helpful. In addition to keeping detailed notes about your prospects, you'll always want to keep integrating new information you learn into your prospecting. You never know what you can learn next that is going to help you achieve your goals.

A statistic about who makes a good prospect could really make the difference in your daily routing. Or a tip from a top seller in your upline could make all the difference the next time you need to seal the deal. Everyone learns from one another in a collaborative environment. The network of people in your upline will be enormously helpful to you as you prospect new people.

Can they look at what you're doing and tell you what isn't working?

Can they tell you what actions they took to get more sales?

When they started seeking out prospects, where did they have the most luck?

What, in the experience of experts in your upline, helps to land prospects faster than what you're doing now?

There is so much to learn about network marketing strategies that you can incorporate into your business to make it grow. Remember that practice makes perfect, so don't be afraid to put in some extra effort to learn more about prospecting.

I GOT RIPPED OFF 500 dollars, what are my options and legal rights?

Ok, I joined a Network Marketing Company and decided to quit after some time. When I quit, I requested full refund (I quit within the deadline to request refund), and confirmed with the company on multiple occasions that my money has been refunded. The problem is, when I paid my start up money, I paid my cash to my upline and he paid the money with his credit card. So, the money was refunded to his credit card. Now, this guys denies that he got the money back on his credit card. And the company only repeats the same thing, " we refunded your money to the credit card that was used to pay your start up fees." So it looks like my upline is lying to me to take my money and the company keeps trying to avoid this issue as if it is a third party. So, what should I do in this case? Is there any legal action I can take? Should I tell the company that I will sue them if they do not give my money back directly?

First have written proof from the company that says they refunded the money to this credit card and what date they did it, then ask the person who had the credit card for proof they did not refund you the money. If this person is telling the truth they should be willing to work w/you to help you get your money back. If the person who got the refund won't provide you proof (like the statement that should reflect the refund based on the date this other company told you they did), then you can rest assured they are lying. You can take them to small claims court, and inform the person that if they are not willing to work with you then you are under the impression they must have received the refund, you are going to take them to small claims court if they do not provide you w/proof of the refund. Either they will give you the refund or wait to see if you actually sue them, small claims is easy to do, you just go to local government building to sue them, it will cost to file the suit each state is different, you represent yourself in claims court, and you can include the refund and court cost to be what you are suing for. You will need proof and documentation of your transaction, proof you paid this person cash, proof they used this credit card, proof this company refunded the money back to the credit card, and that this person has returned the money to you. If you want to win you need to be able to make your case, documentation is needed to win, if you have all this then you should win your case in small claims court.

Connecting the Dragon - Opportunities and Challenges in China's Telecom Industry

China's Telecom Market, currently worth about $84 billion, is expected to reach $130 billion by 2009. If all goes according to plan, the Beijing Olympics this summer is expected to bring about major transformations in this sector that will create new opportunities for both foreign and local telecom players.

3G - the next big leap

During the Sydney Olympics, text messages bearing good news flooded China's mobile network whenever a Chinese athlete secured a medal. The Beijing Olympics is expected to mark another major milestone for the nation's telecommunications industry. This time, some of China's 500 million mobile subscribers will have the choice to receive the latest Olympic updates in a "revolutionary" manner - through 3G technology.

China is gearing up for this moment; planning of 3G operating licence issuance started since 2006, telecom carriers have started to invest heavily in planning and trial of their 3G network, and numerous companies are working around the clock to develop the latest and greatest in mobile applications technology. Overall, 200 million Chinese are expected to become 3G users by 2009 and the implementation of the new technology is estimated to achieve $5 billion investment annually from 2008 to 2010.

Though promising, the potential of 3G cannot be realised without the development of an extensive telecoms network and infrastructure. And the Chinese government realises this. Since March this year, the nation started testing the local 3G standard - TD-SCDMA network - in eight cities, including the six Olympic cities - Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Qingdao, Shenyang, Qinghuangdao, as well as Xiamen and Baoding. For a start, China Mobile - the industry leader in China's mobile communication - will set up a total of 8,000 to 10,000 TDSCDMA base stations in these cities; and the expansion of 3G network toother coastal cities will soon follow.

All the above indicates a promising future for wireless communication in China. This serves not only as a springboard for more opportunities for the existing telecom players; it would also benefit foreign companies that are eyeing the Chinese market when the market becomes more deregulated after China fulfils its WTO obligations.

Market access for foreign firms

Before China's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) in 2001, many restrictions were imposed on foreign investors interested in its telecom industry. In particular, foreign network providers have not been able to penetrate this protected industry. Gradually over the past few years, the Central Government has introduced a series of reforms aimed at increasing competitiveness and facilitating technology transfer in this sector. Though foreign players are still not permitted to have a wholly owned corporation in China, they can now form joint ventures with local companies and invest up to 50% in the area of value added services; up to 49% in domestic and international wired services and up to 49% in the area of mobile and fixed-line services.

As opposed to service providers, foreign equipment suppliers find it far easier to access China's telecom market. Almost all the top Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) have established local manufacturing and research and development (R&D) facilities in China since the late 1990s. Currently active in the market are top players such as Canadian Nortel, Alcatel-Lucent-Shanghai Bell, Ericsson, Siemens and Motorola. Japanese telecommunication equipment manufacturers such as NEC, Fujitsu and Hitachi, as well as Korea's Samsung and LG also have an established presence in the Chinese market.

Weighing out the challenges and opportunities

However, there are challenges which foreign players need to overcome. Even though China's telecommunications equipment sector has been growing at an astonishing rate of at least 15-20% in the past few years, (faster than China's overall economy), some foreign equipment manufacturers now face tougher competition in the Chinese market.

Historically, the key weakness of Chinese producers has been the lack of knowhow. This gave foreign manufacturers opportunities to penetrate niche markets with their superior technologies and expertise. But the situation is gradually changing as domestic manufacturers make significant technological advancements and start to narrow the gap between domestic and foreign products. A good example is the globalisation of China's two biggest Chinese telecom equipment manufacturers - Huawei and ZTE (Zhongxing) - which are starting to win projects for building telecom networks in emerging markets suchas Africa.

Moreover, local manufacturers have the strong support of the Central Government. The Ministry of Information Industry (MII) - the main regulator of telecommunications in China - has encouraged Chinese operators to purchase telecommunication equipment from Chinese manufacturers, including leading suppliers such as Huawei, ZTE, Datang and Great Dragon.

Above all, weak enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) in China also poses a tough challenge to foreign players.

To remain competitive in China's telecom market, it is extremely important that foreign players continuously innovate, adapt and react quickly to market changes and prepare themselves to be aggressive in sales and marketing.

Finding a niche in second-tier cities

One viable option is to look beyond the saturated markets of Beijing and Shanghai to explore some promising second-tier cities, such as Shenzhen, Tianjin and Nanjing (Refer to Table 1). Other emerging markets include Qingdao, Xi'an, Hangzhou and Dalian.

Table 1: Import Growth and Market Potential of second-tier cities

City

Import Growth (2002-2006)

Market Potential

Shenzhen

26%

- China's largest importer of telecom equipment, after Beijing and Shanghai

- An important distribution base for other provinces

Tianjin

33%

- An ideal gateway for foreign suppliers to serve the North China market

- One of the eight cities selected for 3G trials

Nanjing

44%

- Shows strongest import growth trend

- Economic advancement of this city and its neighbouring Jiangsu province drives demand for higher quality telecom equipment

Join forces with the Chinese players

Another strategy employed by the large global players to secure faster access to the Chinese market is to partner domestic suppliers. This works especially well, if they are targeting the government-controlled telecom carriers.

In 2000, Siemens joined forces with Huawei and China Academy of Telecommunication Technology toform the TD-SCDMA international forum to develop the next generation mobile technology. Alcatel alsoestablished a strategic alliance with Shanghai Bell and Shanghai Telecom Administration, while Ericssonpartnered Panda Electronics in Nanjing.

With more than 1.25 million cellular subscribers signing up on the China network every week, theChinese telecom market is one that cannot be ignored. To reap the longterm rewards from this promising market, investors must first take on the challenge, be innovative and stay committed to their cause.
