The basics of currency trading isn't hard to learn. This information will be helpful for you learn the forex market as you begin your career in trading. Forex or foreign exchange means the buying and selling of currency. The individual who buys and sells currencies is called a forex trader.

Another item that you should know in basics currency trading is the foreign exchange market. It is the largest market in the world. Trading happens here day in and day out. It functions 24 hours a day 5 days a week, except on holidays and weekends. The week starts at five in the afternoon Sunday Eastern Standard time until four in the afternoon Eastern Standard Time Friday.

Basics currency trading is really simple. The aim of the trader is to purchase something that is about to increase in value, then sells it at a higher price later to earn profit. Another way is to sell at a high price or rate now and buy it lower at later day. The two currencies that make up an exchange rate are referred to as currency pair. 17% Swell in College Financial Aid Submissions Hints at Economy’s Effect on Families

More families are appealing to the federal government for help this year in paying for college, as parents face a shrinking job market, record-high food and gas prices, and tightened borrowing restrictions that have grown out of the current credit crisis.

 

Submissions of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) are up 17 percent this year, according to a recent report released by the U.S. Department of Education. Never before has the Education Department been bombarded with so many FAFSA submissions, totaling 9 million for the 2008–09 school year — 1.3 million more than last year, even though only 300,000 new students are expected to enter the higher education system this fall.

 

The students who have traditionally relied on federal student loans to pay for college are being joined, say financial aid experts, by over a million additional students whose families have previously been able to pay for school on their own but are now in need of federal financial support.

 

“What we are seeing is more people filling out requests for financial aid,” said Richard Toomey, associated vice provost at Santa Clara University. “Students who haven’t needed assistance before are coming in.”

 

As Economy Hits Student Loan Lenders, Schools Turn to Federal Government

 

Typically, in the summer months before school starts, student loan providers would be saturated with potential borrowers shopping for federal and private student loans. This year, in particular, with the economy in a downturn and unemployment as its highest level in five years, lenders would expect to be processing a larger-than average volume of student loan applications for the growing number of families in need of financial assistance — that is, if the lenders weren’t being affected by the sinking economy themselves.

 

Caught in the ongoing credit squeeze, a number of lenders of non-federal, credit-based private student loans have been forced to suspend their private student loan programs.

 

And lenders of federal college loans aren’t faring much better.

 

Last fall, Congress passed federal legislation that cut over $21 billion in federal subsidies to lenders in the Federal Family Education Loan Program, rendering the government-backed parent and student loans made through these third-party FFELP lenders essentially unprofitable. Compounding these lenders’ sudden loss of government subsidies are the general troubles in the student loan credit markets, part of the far-reaching aftershocks of the subprime mortgage meltdown.

 

Many of the non-bank FFELP lenders secure the capital they need to make new federal college loans by packaging and selling their student loan portfolios in the secondary market. But investors, still skittish after the collapse of the subprime and Alt-A credit markets and wary of any kind of defaults in the face of spiraling foreclosure rates in the housing sector, have stopped buying packaged student loans. Without buyers for their federal student loan portfolios, FFELP lenders aren’t able to generate the liquidity necessary to fund any new federal parent or student loans.

 

Even after the government passed emergency legislation in May in the Ensuring Continued Access to Student Loans Act that would allow the Department of Education to purchase federal student loan portfolios from FFELP lenders as a means of providing these lenders with the capital they need to originate new student loans, FFELP lenders have simply been unable to come up with the money they would need to fund an initial portfolio they could sell to the government.

 

Cash-strapped and in a liquidity crunch, over 100 FFELP lenders to date have suspended their federal student loan programs, leaving hundreds of thousands of students and parents looking for a new lender for their federal college loans.

 

Fearing the increasing instability of the FFEL program, nearly 300 colleges and universities so far this year have already applied to join the more than 4,600 schools enrolled in the Education Department’s Direct Loan Program, through which students receive their federal parent and college loans directly from the government rather than through a third-party FFELP lender. In a recent survey conducted by Student Lending Analytics, 40 percent of college administrators said they were contemplating the switch from the FFEL program to the Direct Loan Program as well.

 

Private Student Loans Harder to Come By

 

Many families who have relied on private student loans to supplement their federal grants and college loans are also on the search for new lenders as providers of non-federal private student loans face the same liquidity crunch as FFELP lenders.

 

Those private loan providers that haven’t yet suspended their private student loan programs have been forced to tighten their credit requirements in response to investor concerns.

 

Under these more restrictive credit criteria, the majority of college students, who typically have little or no established credit history, will likely not be able to qualify for a private student loan without a co-signer. And with foreclosures rising and families struggling to pay their bills, a student’s parents or other family may not qualify as co-signers either. Whereas last year, a student or co-signer with a credit score of 620 might have met the minimum credit-score requirement for a private student loan, many lenders are currently accepting only minimum scores of 700 or higher. The average national credit score, according to Experian, is 694.

 

The stricter credit criteria and growing scarcity of private student loan lenders are already having a dramatic impact on the number of students who will be able to rely on private student loans to help them pay for college this semester — particularly those low-income students who may need the most financial assistance but are the least likely to qualify under more stringent credit and income requirements.

 

At community colleges and career-training schools, for example, where lower tuition costs are particularly attractive to low- and middle-income families, only 25 to 35 percent of the students have been approved for private student loans this year, according to Harris Miller, president of the Career College Association, compared to the 75 to 80 percent that qualified last year.

With today's economy, will my college education be worth it?

I will owe approximately 80-90k in loans after college. That means almost $900 a month in payments after college, for the next 20 years of my life. I have a GPA of 3.5 (which I've worked VERY hard for). Last year I didnt work a job to see how college would work out for me. This year I'll be working thirty plus hours a week. With a Bachelors in Finance will it be worth it? (I hope to work in Investment Banking and ultimately be a financial manager) Or should I just cut my losses get out with my 40k in loans after this year and just work a few jobs until I pay off my loans? Help.

Stay in college. You'll be less likely to struggle financially in the long run. Dropping out now could give you problems. And besides if you do go on to work in investment banking, you'll be earning enough to pay off the whole debt of in a couple of years anyway.

Negotiation: a Toolbox for Managers

The term “negotiate” is to  “confer with another person with a view to compromise or agreement…to arrange or bring about”. Thus, Negotiation means taking decision with an objective to create a “win-win” situation for both the parties; for mutual benefit and positive outcome. It also helps to save time, energy, reduce stress, encourage team spirit, enhances productivity and increases profitability. In business Negotiations occurs between an employee and employer, trade union and top management, sales manager and dealers/distributors/bankers and various departments for appropriate allocation of resources.

Fundamental Elements of the Negotiation Process

"... negotiations commonly follow a four-step path: preparation, information exchange, explicit bargaining, and commitment. ... Negotiation is, in short, a kind of universal dance with four stages or steps. And it works best when both parties are experienced dancers."

One of the interesting aspects to negotiation theory is that even the fundamental elements of the process are subject to varying opinions. The quotation above breaks the process down into four phases. I prefer three. Let's review the basics before moving on.

Phase I: Pre-bargaining Phase

1. Information: Learn as much as you can about the problem. What information do you need from the other side?

2. Leverage Evaluation: Evaluate your leverage and the other party's leverage at the outset. This is important because there may be a number of things you can do to improve your leverage or diminish the leverage of the other side. What will you do to enhance your leverage?

3. Analysis: What are the issues?

4. Rapport: Establish rapport with your opponent(s). You need to determine early on if your opponents are going to be cooperative; if not, consider employing a mediator as soon as practical.

5. Goals and expectations: Goals are one thing; expectations are something else.

6. Type of negotiation: What type of negotiation do you expect? Will this be highly competitive, cooperative, or something unusual? Will you be negotiating face to face, by fax, through a mediator, or in some other manner?

7. Budget: Every negotiation has its costs. Lawyers will avoid conflicts with their clients by discussing budgets sooner rather than later. Many times there are a number of choices for enhancing leverage. For example, you may enhance your leverage by taking several depositions, by adding parties to a law suit, by serving subpoenas on witnesses, or by hiring experts. Unless your client has unlimited resources, you will have to make some hard choices, which should be designed to give you the "most bang for your buck".

8. Plan: What's your negotiation plan?

Phase II: Bargaining Phase

1. Logistics: When, where, and how will you negotiate? This can be especially important in multi-party cases.

2. Opening offers: What is the best offer you can justify? Should you make it, or wait to let another party go first?

3. Subsequent offers: How should you adjust your negotiating plan when responding to unanticipated moves by your opponent?

4. Tactics: What sort of tactics will you employ? What sort of tactics is your opponent using on you?

5. Concessions: What concessions will you make? How will you make them?

6. Resolution: What is the best way to resolve the problem? Is there an elegant solution? Be on constant lookout for compromise and creative solutions.

Phase III: Closure Phase

1. Logistics: How and when will you close? At mediation or later on? Who will prepare the final agreement?

2. Documentation: Prepare a closing checklist.

3. Emotional closure: It's one thing to end a legal dispute; it's another to address the underlying interests and needs of the parties. If you neglect the latter, the agreement will probably not sustain.

4. Implementation: It's not over until it is over.

Positive affect in negotiation

Even before the negotiation process starts, people in a positive mood have more confidence, and higher tendencies to plan to use a cooperative strategy. During the negotiation, negotiators who are in a positive mood tend to enjoy the interaction more, show less contentious behavior, use less aggressive tactics and more cooperative strategies. This in turn increases the likelihood that parties will reach their instrumental goals, and enhance the ability to find integrative gains. Indeed, compared with negotiators with negative or natural affectivity, negotiators with positive affectivity reached more agreements and tended to honor those agreements more. Those favorable outcomes are due to better decision making processes, such as flexible thinking, creative problem solving, respect for others' perspectives, willingness to take risks and higher confidence. Post negotiation positive affect has beneficial consequences as well. It increases satisfaction with achieved outcome and influences one’s desire for future interactions. The PA aroused by reaching an agreement facilitates the dyadic relationship, which result in affective commitment that sets the stage for subsequent interactions.
PA also has its drawbacks: it distorts perception of self performance, such that performance is judged to be relatively better than it actually is. Thus, studies involving self reports on achieved outcomes might be biased.

Negative affect in negotiation

Negative affect has detrimental effects on various stages in the negotiation process. Although various negative emotions affect negotiation outcomes, by far the most researched is anger. Angry negotiators plan to use more competitive strategies and to cooperate less, even before the negotiation starts. These competitive strategies are related to reduced joint outcomes. During negotiations, anger disrupts the process by reducing the level of trust, clouding parties' judgment, narrowing parties' focus of attention and changing their central goal from reaching agreement to retaliating against the other side. Angry negotiators pay less attention to opponent’s interests and are less accurate in judging their interests, thus achieve lower joint gains. Moreover, because anger makes negotiators more self-centered in their preferences, it increases the likelihood that they will reject profitable offers. Anger doesn’t help in achieving negotiation goals either: it reduces joint gains and does not help to boost personal gains, as angry negotiators don’t succeed in claiming more for themselves. Moreover, negative emotions lead to acceptance of settlements that are not in the positive utility function but rather have a negative utility. However, expression of negative emotions during negotiation can sometimes be beneficial: legitimately expressed anger can be an effective way to show one's commitment, sincerity, and needs.  Moreover, although NA reduces gains in integrative tasks, it is a better strategy than PA in distributive tasks (such as zero-sum).

Conclusion

Finally, to conclude in the words of Wrigley and Moshe Dayan, a) When two men in business always agree, one of them is unnecessary. b) If you want to make peace, you don’t talk to your friends, you talk to your enemies.

The advantages of negotiation are that it limits the number of players to those involved in the dispute. This allows for a focused approach to problem solving. The disadvantage is that if the viewpoints of the parties are to distant then progress is difficult to achieve.

Arbitration allows a third party to resolve disputes between two or more parties. The advantage of this system is that it allows a neutral party to decide on a resolution to the the matter presented which is binding upon all parties. The disadvantage is there are often differences with regard to who the arbitrator will be and as a result it introduces a new set of conflicts. Additionally, the personal bias of the arbitrator may lead to a ruling which is not fair but none the less binding upon all parties.

Mediation has the advantage of allowing a neutral third party assist in helping find a resolution to conflicts. In short a mediator cannot force parties to accept a resolution but he or she can guide the parties to work from points of mutual agreement. The disadvantage to mediation is that the mediator cannot enforce any decision and may loose credibility if no resolution is found to the problem. Additionally, a mediator may suffer from the same bias problem as an arbitrator.

I was wondering if you were with an Online Stock Trading Company and if you wanted to buy or sell stocks with that company, are you only selling and buying it to that company or is it shared with all the companies and regular people at the NYSE? I ask this question because there are many online trading websites, and wondered if one has more people than the either.

A trading company is just a broker or an intermediary within the exchange. They just link buyers and sellers using technology of online trading. You dont buy or sell with that company. Imagine, you are holding a stock and at the other end, I am waiting to buy that share. How do we buy or sell. The broker simply lists the availability of the share over the system and at the other end, a buyer is intimated about the availability thru the same system. so the trading company just place the role like ebay or online shopping. all traders in the exchange are intimated about availability of shares thru the Online Trading Companies. At times, with special rights, the same company can buy or sell shares for its ownself. Overall, they just connect investors for a fee called brokerage. In a secondary market, shares are traded amongst investors, not companies which issue them

I don't know to much about it, but am hoping to start trading with 4-5 hundred bucks on this online account where it is 5 bucks a trade. Is there chance to make some actual money if I read the charts etc? How much do you make
