I really don't understand how to read my credit report. Is there any non-profit or government help out there?

I have a couple school loans. However, I have about ten entries from different companies on my report collecting these two school loans. I do not get any mail from these company because of my moves. I don't know who I should contact to start paying them. Is there any free credit help or counseling out there?
